Our program provides personalized treatment plans for each of our clients to address their specific situation and needs. We believe all of our clients have the capacity to be resilient, to regain strength, health and success after a trying time, and we support them throughout. Our central goal is to provide effective and intensive treatment in an intimate treatment setting where we can foster connection, trust, and growth. Our validated treatment program focuses on helping teens learn about and deal with their disorders and the issues surrounding them in order to support long-term recovery.

NATIONAL DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS MENTAL HEALTH

After completing her Master’s degree in Psychology at Pepperdine University, Amy Brown began working to help individuals and families find healing and hope. Ms. Brown came to Discovery’s Resilience with extensive experience managing various eating disorder programs as well as behavioral health facilities. Under Ms. Brown’s leadership, Discovery’s Resilience’s substance abuse and mental health programs have flourished and Ms. Brown now oversees numerous mental health and substance abuse programs throughout southern California. Ms. Brown feels very deeply about the contribution she is making to improve the quality of life for adolescents and their families. One of the things that attracted Ms. Brown to Discovery’s Resilience was the shared commitment to providing the best quality of care to each patient and his or her family.

Amanda Aromatici, MFT

Amanda Aromatici, MFT

Program Director

Amanda Aromatici is a Marriage and Family Therapist who obtained her MFT Degree from Southern Connecticut State University, after completing her B.A. in Theology and Religious Studies with a double minor in Art Studio and Psychology at the Catholic University of America. Amanda’s journey with Discovery Behavioral Health began at the first east coast Discovery Mood and Anxiety residential program serving as Primary Therapist when the program opened in early 2017.  During the summer of 2018 she transferred to New Haven’s Outpatient Program working with clients and families from both the mental health and eating disorders programs. 

Amanda has experience working in both private and public clinical service programs with children, adolescents, adults, and families. From the New Haven Public School system to private outpatient and residential programs she has collaborated with a variety of clients, families, and colleagues. Amanda is a systemic thinker and works with a client-centered mentality in empathetic and creative ways. She utilizes DBT, CBT, Family Systems, and Creative Impact Therapy strategies, always practicing with her clients’ best interests at heart. In her free time you can find her outdoors with her dog Mae, at an art museum, or nestled in the corner of a used bookstore.

Anitra McFarland, LMSW

Anitra McFarland, LMSW

Primary Therapist

Anitra McFarland graduated from Western Connecticut State University’s Social Work program Magna Cum Laude in 2016. While she was there, she found further involvement in her program by being Vice President of the Phi Alpha Honor Society (Chi Sigma chapter) as well as being the President of the Social Work Club organizing several events on campus.

In 2017, Anitra went on to pursue her Master’s Degree at Fordham’s Graduate School of Social Service and obtained her Master’s License in November of 2018.

She has worked with various communities including the geriatric population and adults with mental illness and substance abuse disorders. After working with the elderly for three years, she is now seeking change and is eager to challenge her skills with a new and different population. Anitra approaches her work knowing that clients’ lives are worth her time and the belief that everyone is capable of change with the right support, motivation, and teachable skills.

When Anitra is not working, you can find her attempting to practice yoga, reading, singing karaoke with friends, and re-watching her favorite movies.

Taya Jefferson, MPS

Taya Jefferson, MPS

Counselor III/ Art Therapist

Taya Jefferson is a Creative Arts Therapist who obtained her Master’s of Professional Studies at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, after completing her B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Studio Art at York College in Queens, NY.

She has worked with a multitude of populations though-out New York and Connecticut, including: middle school children in urban communities, children with behavioral difficulties and on the Autism Spectrum at a sleep-away Summer camp, the elderly population at a Jewish nursing home and rehabilitation center, and young women at an eating disorder treatment center. Taya approaches her practice from a creative aspect, as well as with various psychological theories, with an emphasis on creating art and helping clients tap into their creative abilities.

In Taya’s free time, you can find her watching marathons of her favorite shows, painting, and reading about astrology and metaphysics.
