Conditions We Treat

What’s the difference between a bad mood and a mental health disorder? A lot. Lost jobs. Missed opportunities. Strained relationships. At worst, it can cause serious, long-lasting damage to your health and future. These are the unfortunate outcomes of untreated mental health disorders.

Fortunately, these conditions are treatable. Discovery Mood & Anxiety uses a unique, measurement-based approach to create truly effective, personalized treatment programs that will help you take your life back from mental health disorders and build a life worth living.

Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal emotion most people experience during their lives. It’s often a natural response to danger, stress, and uncertainty.

However, sometimes anxiety can become extremely intense, long-lasting and hard to control, even when there’s no reason to feel that way. In some cases, people who are struggling with anxiety can feel like they’re going to faint or even about to have a heart attack.

Anxiety disorders can be extremely disruptive, causing a person to think they’re on the verge of losing control over everything. The constant stress of anxiety disorders can cause real damage to a person’s body as well.

However, anxiety is treatable. With the right help, you’ll be able to safely explore the roots of your anxiety and build healthy ways to respond to stress.

Bipolar Disorder

Most mood disorders involve prolonged low moods. Bipolar disorder is different.

Bipolar disorder, formerly known as manic depression, often sends people between emotional extremes. The manic phase features intense emotional highs that can make a person behave erratically; the depressive phase can leave a person immobilized with intense depression.

While not everyone with bipolar disorder experiences the same emotional swings, this mood disorder can wreak havoc with your life if left untreated. However, it’s a condition that can be managed, allowing you to live your best life.

Co-Occurring Disorder

Mental health disorders rarely occur by themselves. Usually, they’re accompanied by another disorder such as an eating disorder or a substance use disorder (SUD). This combination is known as co-occurring conditions or dual diagnosis.

When these issues happen together, it can feel overwhelming, like you’re stuck in a circle with no relief in sight. However, co-occurring conditions are treatable, and a plan can be personalized to your unique needs.

To live a fulfilling life, getting help for a co-occurring disorder is critically important. Let us help you get there with measurement-based, expert care.

Depression

Depression is one of the most common mental health disorders. A 2025 report from polling agency Gallup called depression rates in the United States “historically high.”

In most cases, “depression” is a term for major depressive disorder (MDD). MDD is a serious medical disorder that chiefly involves a persistent, low mood. NIMH estimates around 2.1 million adults in the US experience at least one episode of MDD during their lifetime.

It can be easy to consider depression as simply a case of the blues, but it’s deeper than that. MDD rarely goes away on its own, and its effects can be seriously debilitating. However, depression also responds well to treatment.

Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD)

Reactive attachment disorder (RAD) happens when a child never develops the crucial bond between a child and their parent or caretaker. It’s a devastating condition that has aftereffects well into adulthood, often leaving a person struggling to develop healthy bonds for most of their lives.

Discovery Mood & Anxiety’s adolescent treatment program is designed to help adolescents deal with the childhood trauma that often drives RAD, helping them to reach their true potential and give them a chance at forging happy, healthy relationships.

If you’ve been struggling with RAD yourself, we can help you come to terms with your past trauma and live the life you deserve.

No diagnosis is hopeless. We’ll help you live the life you’ve always wanted.

Self-Harm

Self-harm is behavior involving causing physical harm to oneself. Clinically, it’s often referred to as non-suicidal self-injury disorder (NSSID), as these behaviors tend not to involve the act of suicide. These behaviors are often a sign of intense emotional distress and can be a symptom of many different mental health disorders.

Self-harm can involve:
• Cutting
• Burning
• Skin-picking
• Scratching

Adolescents are often at the highest risk of self-harming behaviors, but adults can also engage in self-harm.

These behaviors can create feelings of intense shame. Self-harm can also be a sign of deeper issues. However, there’s hope – we’ll help you find healthier coping mechanisms that truly help as you safely explore yourself and your history.

Trauma

Trauma is a condition that results from witnessing and/or surviving:
• Violence
• Abuse
• Combat
• The death of a loved one
• Natural disasters
• Assault
And more.

Trauma is more than bad memories. Trauma disorders often make people vividly reexperience their trauma, resulting in intense emotional distress, intrusive thoughts, nightmares and more. Often, trauma lasts a lifetime if not treated, leaving a person feeling helpless, causing major disruptions to their life, and putting them at risk for other mental health disorders and substance abuse.

However, it’s possible to overcome trauma. Discovery Mood & Anxiety will safely and confidentially explore your past traumas, teaching you how to avoid your triggers, find healthy coping mechanisms, and help you work through the past.

Do I Have a Mental Health Disorder?

It’s understandable why you might ask yourself this question – most people wonder from time to time if they’re okay during periods of stress and uncertainty. If you’ve been struggling, it’s worth asking yourself questions like:

• Have my sleep patterns, mood, energy levels, and/or motivation changed recently?
• Do I feel overwhelmed, or not my usual self?
• Have I been having problems at work, school, or in my relationships due to my emotions, thought patterns, and actions?
• Have these changes been around for a while, like a couple of weeks?
