COVID-19 Update: Online Telehealth is now being offered through Discovery Mood & Anxiety as an alternate to in-person partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment. Learn more about our Online Telehealth treatment program here.

We will continue to offer residential treatment for individuals who need a higher level of care. You can learn about all that we are doing to protect the safety and wellbeing of our patients and staff here.

Our San Diego facility provides a day-treatment program that offers partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient levels of care for adolescents between the ages of 11 and 17. We focus on assisting clients in gaining insight into their individual mental health challenges as well as supporting them and their families in developing new and healthy patterns of thinking and living in their home, educational, and social settings.

Conditions treated include depression, anxiety, attachment disorders, behavioral challenges, autism, bipolar disorder, suicidal thoughts and behavior, and more. The program is administered by six Masters-level clinicians who conduct individual, family, and group therapies aimed at helping clients to develop healthy coping skills. These may involve cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), education to promote emotional literacy, conflict resolution, experiential therapy, mindfulness, creative arts, and process group. We also hold a weekly multi-family group session in which all clients and their families are led through therapeutic activities that improve communication, empathy, and insight in the family unit. Medication management and consultation is offered as needed. The staff also provides educational coordination while young patients are in treatment.

The San Diego facility is centrally located in the Mira Mesa community at the corner of Scranton Drive and Oberline Drive with easy access to the 805 freeway. We are housed in a professional complex across from amenities that include restaurants and cafes.

Amy Brown, MA

After completing her Master’s degree in Psychology at Pepperdine University, Amy Brown began working to help individuals and families find healing and hope. Ms. Brown came to Discovery’s Resilience with extensive experience managing various eating disorder programs as well as behavioral health facilities. Under Ms. Brown’s leadership, Discovery’s Resilience’s substance abuse and mental health programs have flourished and Ms. Brown now oversees numerous mental health and substance abuse programs throughout southern California. Ms. Brown feels very deeply about the contribution she is making to improve the quality of life for adolescents and their families. One of the things that attracted Ms. Brown to Discovery’s Resilience was the shared commitment to providing the best quality of care to each patient and his or her family.

Davida is excited to be the Program Director at the Center for Discovery Resilience Mental Health Outpatient Program in San Diego. Davida has worked both in an agency and private practice setting and has experience working with a wide range of ages and individuals experiencing a variety of diagnoses. Davida is an advocate for mental health and served on the San Diego Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists Board of Directors from 2011 to 2015, and was the President of that organization in 2015.

PRIMARY THERAPIST

Alyssa McArthur

After receiving her bachelor’s in Family and Child Studies from Northern Illinois University, Alyssa worked at a residential treatment facility specializing in chemical dependency for two years. While there she worked in both the detox center as well as the admission department before moving to California and obtaining her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant. While in her traineeship, Alyssa provided therapy to individuals, families, and couples at San Diego City College in the Mental Health Center and upon graduation worked in the admissions department in a private residential facility specializing in mental health and substance abuse prior to coming aboard at Center For Discovery as a Primary Therapist. Alyssa’s vision for the outpatient mental health program is to provide a safe and supportive environment that allows adolescents to gain new insight, and skills to be to manage their mental health symptoms throughout the course of their lifetime.

CLINICAL COORDINATOR

Hannah “Maia” Bondy, IMF 88595, PCCI 2322

Originally from the Midwest, Maia has had a lifelong passion for helping our nation’s youth. Prior to becoming a therapist, she worked as a nanny for 10 years. Maia earned her Master’s at Azusa Pacific University, graduating in 2015 with a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. During her practicum, she worked at a crisis house serving primarily homeless clients diagnosed with severe mental illness, an environment that led to a deep passion for the TAY (Transition Age Youth-18 to 25-year-olds) population and crisis interventions. In order to better understand the challenges that youth face, Maia worked in a public school district, quickly learning more about public education and advocating for her clients in IEP teams. In May 2017, Maia joined Center For Discovery, working on call for the Resilience residential facility in Vista, CA. In September 2017, she joined the Resilience IOP/PHP team in San Diego, CA as the Clinical Coordinator, combining her managerial skills and therapy skills in one role. Maia’s therapeutic approach is fairly simple: meet the client where they are at and work with them to reach their goals. Outside of work, Maia enjoys practicing yoga, cooking, and traveling.
