What is Pharmacological Treatment?
When an individual is in crisis, either with a mental health or substance abuse issue, it can be extremely challenging to work on the root cause in a therapeutic way. It’s important that the client is physically and emotionally stable enough to begin the work of addressing any underlying issues.
That’s when pharmacological treatments are important. Medications can be very useful in helping a client get through the initial difficulty in treatment—whether that’s going through withdrawals from an addiction or simply feeling emotionally unstable and unable to handle the next steps.
At Discovery Mood and Anxiety Program, we have an expert team of physicians and medical professionals who do a thorough assessment and then work to achieve a sense of balance, helping ease the feelings of being overwhelmed. Once stability is achieved, clients feel much more prepared to do the work needed to complete the recovery process.
Medication alone is not the answer. But it is an important and sometimes necessary first step on the healing journey.
