What’s New at the Center for Discovery New England Outpatient Center
Our New Haven outpatient center has been buzzing with marketing events! We recently hosted a Connecticut Wellness Group event so we could sit down, have breakfast with our local healthcare providers, and discuss the Discovery Difference.
The Center For Discovery Difference
We told them how our programs are not like other programs. How, like our other nationwide locations, Center for Discovery New England programs are situated in small, home-like residential treatment centers that provide warm supportive, positive environments for teens, adolescents, or adults that struggle with eating disorders and other behavior or mental disorders. We explained that we deliberately only treat a limited number of residents and told them how our treatment centers do not look, feel, or smell like cold clinical hospitals.
Center for Discovery’s New England locations -and all of our other centers, are carefully designed to focus on treating residents like people, not patients. Our intimate treatment centers, nestled in friendly residential settings, enable clients and their families to obtain, internalize, and transfer the new coping skills from their treatment experience to the “real world.”
Our Teams
We demonstrated to these healthcare professionals how our treatment programs are tailored to meet the needs of each family. How each program is personalized and managed by our highly specialized, licensed multi-disciplinary teams. They learned that each of our teams include experienced psychiatrists, physicians, therapists, dietitians, and counselors.
We were very proud to inform them that our entire staff is dedicated to providing the highest level of care for loved ones through a combination of hands-on training, valuable information, individual therapy, group therapy, family sessions, and creative therapies. We pointed out that every member of a Center for Discovery team was recruited or handpicked because they share our deep commitment to the well being and healing of our clients and their families.
Our Process
We understand that long-term recovery requires a combination of practical skills and therapeutic approaches. It also involves the client’s entire family. We’ve been helping clients and their families find a way to recovery for nearly 20 years. Our proprietary treatment model is uniquely family oriented and encourages the family of each resident to become a support system. Our programs always aim to promote improved social support and family interaction. Each family is assisted in learning effective communication, emotion management, and, in the case of eating disorder patients, how to support the concept of proper nutrition for the resident. Each family member is encouraged to take part in the regular therapeutic family activities and family therapy sessions.
We were also able to share the news that we will soon be opening a mental health treatment center for adolescents with intensive outpatient and partial outpatient treatment options as part of Center for Discovery’s expansion into new Discovery Mood and Anxiety programs.
Discovery Mood and Anxiety Means Recovery
The goal of our unique treatment programs for adolescents and teens isn’t perfection. It’s Discovery Mood and Anxiety . Discovery Mood and Anxiety as defined by the process of building strength through adaptability and the ability to change. Our Discovery Mood programs provide multi-faceted levels of care that range from residential treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, to partial hospitalization for adolescents and teens that are struggling with eating disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, self-harm behaviors, gender identity, oppositional defiant disorder, and other major mental health disorders.
All Center for Discovery New England treatment centers, including our Discovery Mood programs, are accredited by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Hospitals Organization (JCAHO) and fully licensed by the state of Connecticut as residential treatment centers. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is a nationally recognized symbol of quality and reflects our commitment to the highest performance and treatment standards. Center for Discovery receives many referrals from local health professionals such as psychiatrists and therapists when they feel that a more focused and intensive treatment may be beneficial for the patient.
Because we treat both male and female adolescents, ages 11 to 17, with eating disorders as a primary diagnosis, our proprietary process for treating eating disorders focuses on both the disorder and the issues that contribute to it. We stressed that we are contracted with most of the major insurance companies, and that we frequently serve as advocates in the U.S. healthcare system to help our clients.
Many healthcare providers were very happy to hear this news, and several said they felt that these types of programs were long overdue for the New Haven area. We expressed how excited we are to bring our client-first, family-centered approach to the mental healthcare community in the region, offering multi-modal behavior modification treatment programs and a diverse, well-trained staff that can help clients work through a wide range of therapeutic intervention options.
An outline of our multi-faceted therapeutic options listed these features:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
- Exposure Response Prevention
- Emotion Regulation
- Emotion Management
- Communication Skills
- Skills and Knowledge
For patients with eating disorders, this list also included:
